A poll by the American Museum of Natural History finds that seven in 10 biologists believe that mass extinction poses a colossal threat to human existence, a more serious environmental problem than even its contributor, global warming; and that the dangers of mass extinction are woefully underestimated by almost everyone outside science.

The university is currently using Mobile Campus as one more way to broadcast general campuswide messages, such as hurricane warnings. Off campus and commuter students in particular are more likely to receive that kind of last-minute message than they are e-mail. "It's part of our formalized communication plan," says Chris Cupoli, director of student involvement at UF.



College students across the country are fired up about global warming, and they're gathering online to agitate for change. Is this the next big youth movement?

EMI Group CEO Eric Nicoli today hosted a press conference at EMI's headquarters in London where he announced that EMI Music is launching DRM-free superior quality downloads across its entire digital repertoire and that Apple's iTunes Store will be the first online music store to sell EMI's new downloads.


The MPAA may be gearing up for an RIAA-inspired assault on US colleges and universities. Last week the group announced its support for the "Curb Illegal Downloading on College Campuses Act (2007)," and MPAA head Dan Glickman said that his organization would work with school administrators to put an end to movie piracy on campuses, which Glickman says costs the industry $500 million annually.
