The following print titles are available online to PJC students through the online catalog. From the top of library’s homepage at http://library.pjc.edu, click on Find Books. Search the catalog for the title, click on the Pensacola/eResources link and log in. Login instructions available under Journal, Magazine & Newspaper Articles, on right of this handout. BOOKS

 

To locate books, use the library catalog to search for people or important incidents. Use Subject search for books that focus on the topic, for example, Boston Tea Party, or Geronimo. Use Keyword search for books that contain at least something about the topic. To browse for books about United States history by period in the catalog, use the Browse Lists search. Use Subject begins with and enter: united states -- history. Move through the screens by time period using the Next button. The catalog returns both print and ebooks and allows users to search all 3 PJC campus libraries, as well as the collections of all 28 Florida community colleges. Books not located at the home campus can be requested by clicking on the location of the book, then using the Request function. Journal, Magazine & Newspaper Articles

Click on the Find Articles link at the top of the library home page for a list of most used article databases by subject. Login is required once a database is selected. Login is automatic from the library computers. To log in from remote computers: 1) select Pensacola Junior college from the drop down menu; 2) type the 14-digit barcode number from the PJC ID card in the Borrower ID box; 3) type the last four digits of your Social Security number into the PIN box.

History Reference Center offers full text from more than 750 history reference books and encyclopedias, and cover-to-cover full text from nearly 60 history magazines. Also contains 58,000 historical documents; 43,000 biographies of historical figures; more than 12,000 historical photos and maps; and 87 hours of historical film and video. . Check box to limit to full-text.  Choose highest reading level. Can limit to Primary Source Documents under Publication Type. To avoid book review articles, include the following in search statement: NOT reviews. Simultaneously searches Academic Search Complete, which is a multidisciplinary database.

 

New York Times Historical. Full-text and full-image articles for The New York Times®, covering the period from 1851-2005.

JSTOR. Access back issues of core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Over 700 titles available. Limit searches by Discipline(s). Use check box(es) to avoid book reviews and/or to access Pamphlets, which are considered primary sources.

Academic Search Complete. Multidisciplinary source of articles from magazines and scholarly (peer reviewed) journals. Includes abstracts (summaries) of most articles. To limit to full-text articles only, and or scholarly (peer reviewed) journals, check the appropriate box(es). The database features PDF content going back as far as 1865.

 

Biography Resource Center. Comprehensive biographical reference database covering literature, science, multicultural studies, politics, government, history, current events and more.
